Customize program labels and narrative areas

Program settings let administrators adapt DORWorks terminology and narrative areas to the agency’s training process. Configure each program separately when your agency uses different models or disciplines.

Open the main program settings

  1. Open Admin → Training Programs.
  2. Select the intended program’s name or Settings.
  3. Review the main settings page.

Use your program’s terminology

Review the available labels for trainees, trainers, phases, ratings or assessments, sections, categories, and locations. Where singular and plural labels are provided, complete both so the wording reads clearly throughout the program.

Examples include using CTO for a communications trainer, Step for a phase, or Position for a work location. Use terms familiar to your staff and consistent with your agency’s training materials.

A label change adjusts terminology. Separately review the settings that control who can create, edit, submit, or approve records when configuring a different training model.

Configure daily narrative areas

Review the setting that shows the daily narrative. Enable any additional narrative areas your program needs and give each one a clear prompt.

For example, an additional area could ask for recommended training focus or another agency-required daily summary. Keep prompts consistent with what staff are expected to document.

Adjust the editor layout

Where a compact editor-height option is available, use it to reduce the narrative area’s displayed height. Review the resulting layout with realistic practice text to make sure it remains easy to use.

Main program settings also include options affecting training tasks, time tracking, trainee editing, and completion sequences. Review those controls carefully rather than changing them as part of a terminology update.

Event-specific fields and narrative prompts are configured under Event Options. Available locations, shifts, categories, and rating levels have their own settings.

Save and review the result

  1. Select Save Settings after making changes.
  2. Open the program using a practice trainee.
  3. Review the dashboard, navigation, and daily record layout.
  4. Confirm that labels and narrative prompts match your agency’s intended process.

Administration settings require saving; do not assume they save automatically when you change a field. If the result differs from what you intended, return to the correct program’s settings and review the saved values.
