Create and use personal narrative templates
Personal templates let you save reusable text for narratives and category comments. Use a template as a starting point, then adapt it to the training or event you are documenting.
Create a personal template
- Select your name in the navigation bar and open My Profile.
- Select My Templates.
- Select Add Template.
- Enter a short, recognizable template name.
- Choose where the template should be available: DOR narratives, event narratives, category comments, or a combination of these placements.
- If you choose category comments, select the categories where the template should appear.
- Enter the reusable text and save the template.
Choose names such as "Traffic stop training" or "End-of-shift summary." Keep trainee names, case details, and other situation-specific facts out of the reusable wording.
Insert a template
- Open an editable narrative or comment field that offers templates.
- Select Insert Template.
- Choose your template from the personal templates listed.
- Review the resulting text, including any content already in the field.
- Replace generic wording with accurate details for the trainee and situation.
- Save or confirm the record’s save status using the controls available on that page.
Review the entire field after inserting a template so that existing information is preserved and text is not duplicated. Inserting a template does not submit or approve the record.
Personal and agency templates
Personal templates belong to your own collection. Agency or program templates are provided by your administrators for shared use. The template picker groups agency templates separately from personal templates.
Edit or retire a template
Return to My Templates to edit reusable wording or placements. If a template is no longer needed, turn off its Active setting to hide it from selection.
A template is missing
Check that the template is active and enabled for the type of field you are editing. For category comments, check that the relevant category is selected. Contact your administrator if an expected agency template is unavailable.
